What is the purpose of this website?
- Mission Statement -
The FUSELAGE website was designed to make people aware of the beauty and elegance of these very impressive, American automobiles: The 1969 - 1973 Imperial, Chrysler, Dodge Monaco/Polara and Plymouth Fury. This was done in order to help stop these vehicles from being crushed, neglected or parted out.
This website shall assist in identifying the different models in each line and through the years. It shall be a help for auto enthusiasts to determine whether an interior, trim or option was really available to the car model in question.
This website also serves as a glorification of the sales material that was produced back then in a very contemporary style.

What does the term "Fuselage" mean?
NASA defines it like this:
"The fuselage, or body of the airplane, is where the passengers and cargo are located. It is a long hollow tube which holds all the pieces of an airplane together and to which the wings are attached. As with most other parts of the airplane, the shape of the fuselage is normally determined by the mission of the aircraft. It is streamlined so that it produces the least possible drag."
Chrysler adopted this term to describe the new styling of their 1969 C-body cars as can be seen in the introduction of this website.

What materials are presented on your website?
First of all, you'll find here the original sales brochures (a.k.a. sales catalogs) of each of the models. I'll later add original press photos, data books, contemporaray magazine articles and other stuff - if I have it.

Do you sell parts or cars?
No, I don't. Please refer to the links to hopefully find a car or parts vendor. Perhaps later I will start a classifieds section reserved for fuselage cars. In the meantime, try Auto Trader Classic or eBaymotors to find an entire car.

Do you buy cars or parts?
I would of course like to hear about it if you have a decent Fuselage Mopar for sale. Please contact me.

Do you want a picture of my car?
Please send images of your car only if
- it is a special edition model or features some rare original option.
- it is an old photo, preferrably from when the car was brand new.
Other than that, the website will be reserved to old, original (sales) material.

Do you have more sales material than shown on the website?
Yes, I do have a lot more stuff. Eventually, I'll have it all scanned and put on the web. However, if you have soemthing you don't see and that you think is worth adding, please let me know (see question below).

I have some sales material not seen on your website. Interested?
Yes, of course. I do have some stuff that hasn't been scanned yet, but yours might not be among them. Like the 1970 Chrysler 300 Hurst color press photos, for example. Or an old photo of your car when it was brand new. Please let me know what you have. There is a big amount of magazine advertisements that feature images not seen elsewhere and I sure would like to see them. If it is okay to add the material to this website you will be given proper credit.

How should I scan material to be put up on the website?
1.  Please scan at 40% to 50% the size and 300 dpi. Or, use 100% the size and 100 dpi.
2.  If the original material contains printed images (which it probably does unless the material is a genuine photograph or plain text), please be sure to activate the "descreen" option in your scanner driver, otherwise the scan will show an annoying moirée pattern.
3.  Then save the image data as JPG (Jpeg) file, otherwise it would be way too large to be sent by e-mail. You can do so by simply using "save as" in the "file" (pull down-) menu of the program from which you launched the scanner driver. Then select "JPG" from the list of file formats, below the field where you enter the future name of the file. If you have an older scanner program, you should be able to specify that, too.

Can I use the images on your website for my website?
Please ask me before you do, otherwise it is unfair. Feel free, however, to use the images for your private purposes.
Please note that the images carry a digital watermark. I have invested a lot of time in scanning and retouching the images and I have put them on the web for you to see and enjoy - not to serve for purposes unbeknownst to me.

Are Imperials C-Bodies or D-Bodies?
Up until 1966, Imperials still used a separate body-on-frame construction while Chryslers had already switched to the unibody design. In 1967, Imperials also started to use the unibody design. From that time on, the sheetmetal under the differently styled hull was very similar to that of the lesser Chryslers and even Plymouth Furys. Similarities between Chrysler and Imperial cars grew even bigger with the introdution of the fuselage design in 1969. For example, the doors will interchange. Only the stub-frame carrying the engine and front axle was 3" longer to make for a longer hood and wheelbase. As a consequence, Imperials were also referred to as C-Bodies from 1967 on until their demise in 1975, even though they had the longest wheelbase.

When I click an image, why doesn't it appear larger?
When you click on an image it should load in a separate window and should be considerably larger. If a new window opens but the image you see is not bigger, try clicking on the "eye" symbol that will probably appear on it. That should put it to its original size. You can generally disable this function in your browser settings under "Automatic image resizing" or similar.
