In order to boost mid-year sales, the 1970 Chrysler Newport Cordoba was launched as a spring special. After the "Cordoba d'Oro" show car had toured the auto show circuit in late 1969, this was the first time the name "Cordoba" was used on a production Chrysler automobile. The car could be had as a 2 door or a 4 door hardtop. It came standard with a special upholstery and trim. The "Aztec Eagle" motif could be found in variations many times within the car. Outside, it sported an "Español" vinyl roof, a special Cordoba gold paint treatment, Aztec body side molding, gold painted wheels and gold painted grille fascia. Of course there was an Aztec hood emblem, too. No modifications of the paint and upholstery scheme could be had, while all other options were available. The 2 door hardtop sold 1,868 times while the 4 door hardtop saw 1,873 copies, making for a total 3,741 Newport Cordobas. |
